In recent news, our chairman Johnny Timpson OBE  resigned from his position as the Prime Minister’s Dementia champion to protest against the treatment of carers. During his appearance on BBC Breakfast, Johnny highlighted the difficulties faced by the 7.7 million unpaid carers across the United Kingdom, expressing his concern over the “devastating” effects of clawing back benefits overpayments on families. This significantly affects the veteran community with 1 in 8 veterans performing a carer role.

As the UK’s first Disability Ambassador, Johnny has been dedicated to improving people’s lives for many years and has undertaken impactful work for inclusion and access within the financial sector. He is a true embodiment of action over rhetoric, demanding action over sentiment.

It’s essential for us to examine closely what we see around us. Often, clubs, companies or organisations promote themselves with rhetoric rather than action. I am proud of Johnny’s decision and his campaign. We are inspired by his principles and ethics.

Johnny’s resignation was based on a point of principle, and it was time for someone to make a stand. His observation being that we must prioritise action over sentiment. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the importance of his message and the need for change.
