Clear, simple and in the headlines: Absolute Academy earns Fairer Finance accreditation
Absolute Academy, our free financial education programme for serving members of the British Armed Forces, has been awarded the Clear & Simple mark by Fairer Finance. It’s a milestone we’re proud of, and this week it made the trade press too, with Health & Protection covering the news.
Here’s what the accreditation means, why we went after it, and what it says about the way we want to serve the military community.
What the Clear & Simple mark means
Fairer Finance is an independent, FCA-authorised consumer research organisation. Its Clear & Simple mark is awarded only after a detailed review of how material is written, designed and presented.
For Absolute Academy, that meant a close look at the programme’s content, its language and the way it presents figures and data. The conclusion: the Academy meets the standard expected of consumer-facing financial education.
Fairer Finance founder James Daley was candid that the bar is high. “Our accreditation sets a high bar,” he said, adding that firms often have to change how they communicate to earn it. He singled out the course’s clear writing, simple design and the real-world examples that bring personal finance to life.
Why Absolute Academy exists
Military pay isn’t straightforward. Allowances shift with postings and deployments, and many recruits are managing their own money properly for the first time. Most civilian financial guidance simply isn’t written with service life in mind.
Absolute Academy was built to close that gap. It’s free, it’s written specifically for service personnel, and it covers the practical money questions that come up in a military career.
One thing Fairer Finance noticed in particular was our push for recruits to compare the market and find the products that genuinely suit them, even when that isn’t us. We think that’s what good financial education should do: build confidence and independence, not steer people toward a sale.
Why we invite independent scrutiny
We see independent assessment of what we offer customers as a core part of meeting the FCA’s Consumer Duty. It’s easy for any firm to say its materials are clear. It means more when someone outside the business checks, challenges and confirms it.
The Clear & Simple mark sits alongside Fairer Finance’s independent fair value ratings of our insurance products, which we publish every month across the whole military insurance market. Taken together, they reflect the same principle: products and guidance that serving personnel can trust, tested by people who don’t work for us.
It also builds on our wider commitments to the Armed Forces community, including our Gold Armed Forces Covenant and our partnership with the Money and Pensions Service.
In the press
The accreditation was covered by Health & Protection, the specialist title for the UK health and protection insurance industry. The piece sets out what Absolute Academy is, how Fairer Finance assessed it, and why the independent review matters under Consumer Duty.
It’s great to see a financial education programme for the Forces getting attention from the wider industry. Read the full article: Absolute Military’s financial literacy programme and academy secures Fairer Finance accreditation.
It follows a busy year of recognition, including being named Best Military Insurance Provider 2026 at the SME News UK Finance Awards.
What’s next
An accreditation isn’t a finish line. We’ll keep updating Absolute Academy as service life and the financial landscape change, and we’ll keep inviting outside scrutiny of how we communicate.
A big thank you to Fairer Finance for the thorough review, and to everyone in our team who worked on making the Academy as clear and useful as possible.
